Turkey Cream Cheese and Bacon Sandwich

Serious question, have you ever tried WHIPPED cream cheese?! I literally had no idea it even existed until two weeks ago and my life is forever changed. All I have to say is that if you haven’t tried it, run to the closest Trader Joe’s and grab yourself a tub, it’s a total game changer. Between the fluffiness, creaminess and light cheesy flavor, it’s just a dream and I’m here for it. With that being said, whipped cream cheese was the sole motivation behind this sandwich and I can confidently express to you that it’s the best sandwich I’ve ever made. When I first made it, I had it 4 days in a row, no exaggeration. After posting it on my instagram story almost daily and a hard yes on a poll from my followers to share the recipe – here we are my friends! This Turkey Cream Cheese and Bacon Sandwich is a flavor explosion providing a salty yet creamy, sweet but tart vibe and you will not be disappointed. If you’re looking for a quick but yummy lunch or dinner option, this is it.

    Nutrition Content

    • This half sandwich provides enough protein and fat for a meal, however, the carbohydrates are on the lower end. Pair this sandwich with fresh fruit or vegetables and you’ll have a balanced meal.
    • Apple smoked bacon from Trader Joe’s is an awesome regular bacon option. With the saturated fat content being 2.5 grams per slice and 5 grams of protein per slice, you really can’t go wrong. The cholesterol (15 mg/slice) and sodium (240 mg/slice) content are low as well.
    • Sourdough is a bread that contains some of the lowest amounts of gluten, if you have a mild gluten sensitivity this could be a good bread option for you.

    Health Benefits

    • Tomatoes provide vitamin C (immune health), potassium (blood pressure and heart disease prevention), vitamin K (blood clotting and bone health) and folate (tissue growth and cell function).
    • Microgreens are rich in potassium (blood pressure and heart disease prevention), iron (delivers oxygen throughout the body), zinc (immune health and wound healing), magnesium (protein synthesis and muscle/nerve function) and copper (cell synthesis and energy production).
    • Smoked turkey breast is an awesome low cholesterol and low fat protein option for those concerned with heart health.

    Equipment

    • Toaster oven
    • Cutting Board
    • Chef knife
    • Sauté pan

    Ingredients

    • 1 slice sourdough bread I use the large sliced San Francisco style sourdough bread from Trader Joe's & cut in half
    • 6 slices smoked turkey breast deli slices
    • 1 slice apple smoked bacon
    • 1 tbsp whipped cream cheese split between bread slices
    • 2 tsp yellow mustard
    • 2 slices tomato
    • 1 pinch microgreens
    • Ground black pepper, to taste

    Instructions

    • Place a sauté pan over medium heat, sauté the bacon (cook to your liking), and place to the side. Pour out the majority of the bacon fat (I collect mine in a mason jar) but leave a little bit to coat the bottom of the pan. Sauté the turkey slices for 1-2 minutes until warm.
    • Spread the whipped cream cheese evenly between the halved sourdough bread. Place in the toaster oven for 2 minutes to toast the bread and warm the whipped cream cheese.
    • Top the sourdough bread with the turkey and bacon on one slice, then top the other slice with the tomatoes, microgreens, mustard and black pepper. Put the slices together and enjoy!

    Notes

Macros per serving (recipe yields 1 serving): 26g carbohydrates, 12g fat and 27g protein (I typically pair this with a ½ cup of pineapple to meet my carbohydrate meal goal)
