How to Properly Cut a Pineapple

April 18, 2020 by Andrea Marincovich, R.D. Leave a Comment

Did you know there was a proper way to cut a pineapple? Yeah, me neither…but now that I’m a pro, I figured I’d pass this priceless knowledge along. Here’s how to properly cut a pineapple.

How to Properly Cut a Pineapple.

You guys, I must confess, I think I am addicted to pineapple. Ever since the beginning of Spring I have been buying a new one at least every two weeks and I’m just in love. I can’t help it, it’s that perfect combination of sweet and tart. Plus, after being stuck in my apartment during this quarantine, pineapple has been that little piece of tropical goodness that I’ve been adding to my daily routine to remind me of better times and I’m all about it. With that said, I’ve clearly been able to master how to properly cut a pineapple, so let me fill you in.

First, allow your pineapple to ripen. You know that your pineapple is ripe when there is no green (not including the leaves) whatsoever and it turns a deep yellow/light brown color.  As mentioned in my previous post, Your Spring Fruit & Veggie Guide, pineapples are now in season until the end of Summer! Which means that now is the optimal time to enjoy a super yummy pineapple. Grab one on your next grocery store run and follow these 12 steps on how to properly cut a pineapple.

Voila!  Super simple right?! After you’ve completed the above 12 steps, store your newly cut pineapple in your fridge and enjoy. The pineapple will stay fresh for up to a week, so start planning some meals and snacks that you can incorporate this refreshing carbohydrate into. I hope it brings you some tropical vibes during this quarantine and reminds you that things will get better. Start daydreaming about that next tropical vacation, I know that I am. ❤
